If you haven’t done your female’s DNA, Spiffy can produce any combination of lilac, blue, cocoa, pied, maskless, masked tan points, solid and fluffy puppies with the right female.

Merle, big rope, brindle, and fawn are all dominant genes and can be produced by Spiffy if brought in by the female.

WHERE CAN I MEET FOR AN IN PERSON BREEDING WITH SPIFFY?

We are located in the small town of Redlands, California located in the Inland Empire in Southern California.

We offer 1 hour of driving from our town free of charge for each breeding any day of the week. We let the owner of the female select their reproduction clinic or vet of choice for the meetup. If you do not have a reproduction clinic, we have a few local clinics we can recommend.

Our preferred reproduction clinic is K9 Reproduction in Murrieta, Ca. Spiffy seems to love this clinic as well. We frequently use them for shipping as their set up have proven effective at keeping sperm chilled and fresh. They also can provide progesterone testing, AI, extraction, and semen analysis.

Our vet said Spiffy’s sample [of shipped sperm] was awesome. The quality was excellent and they were amazed at the sample size. The vet said they have never seen anyone send so much at once.

HOW MUCH DOES SHIPPING SPERM COST AND DO YOU SHIP TO MY CITY?

Overnight chilled shipping is up to $300 in the United States. We can ship to any city within the USA and Canada. Sperm vials can be sent to your vet or directly to your home.

We like to be notified 48 hours before a breeding would take place. However, we can do Same Day shipping through UPS within California and some neighboring states.

Sperm is tested prior to shipping and it is recommended that the sperm is tested before AI as well.

IS YOUR STUD A PROVEN PRODUCER?

Yes, Spiffy has had four litters on the ground and has two on the way. Three of his litters have even been large litters of 7 puppies.

IS SPIFFY A RARE COLOR?

Spiffy one of the only working lilac and tan pied studs globally and potentially the only working stud with his exact DNA combination in the world.

WHAT IS PIED?

Pied, also known as “piebald”, is a “cow-like” color pattern where the dog is primarily white with patches of a different color. For example, a dog that is lilac pied like Spiffy would be a primarily white dog with large or small patches of grey coloring in various shapes all over the dog, while a black pied would be a have patches of black. ect.

Pieds are well loved for the variety they bring to the litter of puppies and the unique look they give to the individual dog. No two pied dogs are identical. Although, pied patterns can be hereditary.

CAN SPIFFY BREED WITH A MERLE OR PIED FEMALE?

There are no colors that are “unsafe” for Spiffy to breed with. He does not have any copies of merle so there is no conflict there. We have done two pied on pied breedings with Spiffy and have had no sign of the “whitehead” gene. Additionally, Spiffy can hear out of his white ear. One pied on pied breeding did result in a beautiful extreme pied female who was healthy and vet cleared.

WHAT IS SPIFFY’S DIET LIKE?

Spiffy is considered a “raw fed” stud. We have him on a nutrient dense diet of Sunday’s dog food.

CAN YOU GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SPIFFY’S AKC REGISTRATION?

Spiffy is AKC registered as a blue pied out of breed standard French Bulldog. His number is NP756563/01. Spiffy is not under limited AKC of any type. Although he is not eligible for AKC shows, all his offspring can be AKC registered and even shown if they meet breed standards.

Per AKC’s guidelines, Spiffy is considered a “Frequently Used Sire” which required DNA testing and submission to AKC to prove his 5 generations of French Bulldog lineage accurate. His AKC DNA testing passed & he is from generations of DNA tested sires as you will see from his pedigree.

There is no “hung paperwork” in his lines per AKC’s testing.

WHAT IS SPIFFY MIXED WITH TO MAKE HIM FLUFFY?

Spiffy is a purebred French Bulldog. There is no other breeds mixed in. He was purchased from actually the first breeder in the United States to have a visual fluffy French Bulldog.

We have completed an Embark breed breakdown DNA test completed which checks over 8 generations back showing Spiffy is indeed 100% French Bulldog.

Additionally, Spiffy is L4L4, which according to the scientists performing UC Davis’s research, the L4 gene is original to very few dog breeds. The French Bulldog being one of them. Although not specified on UC Davis’s site, L1 could also be original to French Bulldogs it is just much more common in many longhaired breeds.

I’ll post below the famous excerpt amongst French Bulldog breeders from a book called “Le Bouledogue Francias” published in 1933 when Fluffy Frenchies were called “Angora French Bulldogs.” I love this particular historical Fluffy French Bulldog photo, because of the resemblance to Spiffy.

CAN MY FEMALE GIVE BIRTH NATURALLY IF SHE BREEDS WITH SPIFFY?

The large head sizes of French Bulldogs do put the puppies at risk of getting stuck in the birth canal. Spiffy’s head is definitely not small. We always recommend c-sections to anyone we breed with. However, if you would like to go for natural, you can take your female into a vet specializing in bulldogs to get the puppies heads measured in utero vs your female. They will be able to determine whether a natural birth is a good option.

WHAT IS A PUP BACK DEAL?

A pup back deal or puppy back deal is when a puppy is exchanged instead of paying the stud fee. Extraction, AI and shipping costs will remain the owner of the female’s responsibility.

IS SPIFFY FROM A FAMOUS LINEAGE?

Spiffy is from the famous Titan line of Fluffy & Blue French Bulldog studs. This was the same line that produced King Kong (whom is Spiffy’s uncle). Additionally, Spiffy has Hungarian pedigree on his mom’s side popular for their beautiful boxy large heads. You can download his full AKC pedigree above.

WHAT IS A LILAC COLORED FRENCH BULLDOG?

Lilac is a combination of recessive genes making a grey colored French Bulldog with light eyes. Check out our article on Lilac French Bulldogs for more information.

WHAT IS THE COST TO LOCK IN SPIFFY?

If you would like to book Spiffy in advance, his lock-in fee is $500. This will keep you at Spiffy’s introductory rate as well. We do not guarantee any bookings of Spiffy that are not locked in. We do our best to accommodate any last minute breedings. However, locked in breedings will take precident.

Although not identical for each breeding, Spiffy is has been frequently tested at 100% motility with over 1.6 billion sperm (over 200 million sperm per ml at 6 mls). Please note that packaged sperm has an estimated loss of 10% motility per day chilled in the protein extender. Spiffy’s sperm is analyzed on a regular basis.

WHY DID YOU REJECT MY APPLICATION TO BREED WITH SPIFFY?

The #1 most common reason why we would reject a breeding application would be due to Spiffy being booked for that timeframe already. We can only extract from Spiffy a maximum of once a day.

As per our ethical breeding practices, we do not support puppy breeding. The female must be above two years old or on her 2nd heat. This delay in breeding your female is better for her health long term. You’re welcome to lock in with Spiffy prior to her reaching a breeding age.

If you have gotten a vets approval, we do not have a specific cap on the maximum age your female must be. However, we recommend under 6 years of age as it can be hard on the female past this age.

We do not accept any females whom have already had 4 or more c-sections.

Additionally, we do not accept any females who do not intend on doing a c-section for the litter. We are open to supporting a natural birth if heads are measured prior to birth and she has been cleared for a natural birth.

Lastly, we are not accepting anyone who’s dogs are living in inhuman conditions, puppy mills, ect. This includes any dogs in the household. Yes, even dogs that aren’t breeding with Spiffy.

Spiffy

CAN YOU EXPLAIN SPIFFY’S GENETIC HEALTH TESTING RESULTS?

Spiffy’s genetic screening is a little more comphrehensive than the typical 4 health panel clearance you’ll see from most French Bulldog studs. He is clear of five crucial hereditary conditions for French Bulldogs: Canine Multifocal Retinopathy (CMR1), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Hyperuricosuria (HUU), Juvenile Hereditary Cataracts (JHC), and Congenital Dyserythropoietic Anemia (CDPA, C3 both variants). Being clear of CMR1 means a reduced risk of developing retinal lesions, which can impair vision. The absence of the DM gene mutation assures that the dog is less likely to develop this progressive spinal condition, which can lead to paralysis. A clear status for HUU ensures that the dog is unlikely to form painful and potentially dangerous urinary stones. Being free from JHC reduces the risk of early-onset cataracts, which can lead to blindness if untreated. Clear results for CDPA are crucial as they prevent a rare but serious condition affecting the dog's ability to produce healthy red blood cells.

Additionally, this dog carries a single copy of the Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) gene, associated predisposition to intervertebral disc disease. Spiffy being a single copy is rare for the breed per UC Davis. French Bulldogs have the highest rate of CDDY of any dog breed. We are currently at 91% of French Bulldogs have this gene: Chondrodystrophy (CDDY and IVDD) and Chondrodysplasia (CDPA) | Veterinary Genetics Laboratory (ucdavis.edu). This status is particularly significant for breeders as it allows them to plan matings that minimize the risk of producing offspring with severe spinal issues, while still maintaining breed-specific traits.

For breeders, these detailed genetic insights are invaluable. They not only assist in selecting genetically healthier dogs for breeding programs but also enhance the overall quality of litters by reducing the incidence of these serious health issues. Potential breeders should consider these genetic test results as a cornerstone for breeding decisions, aiming to sustain and improve the breed's health and longevity.

HOW OLD IS SPIFFY? AND WHEN WILL YOU CLOSE HIM TO THE PUBLIC FOR BREEDINGS?

He is 2 years old and he will not be closed to the public until 6 years old or sooner if we see a dip in sperm motility.

CAN SPIFFY BREED NATURALLY?

Spiffy has tried to tie naturally with our female and we have never had success. We do not offer natural tie as an option for our breedings with Spiffy.

HOW MANY PUPPIES SHOULD WE EXPECT TO HAVE WITH SPIFFY?

The genetics of the female, or dam, actually will have the largest impact on your litter’s size influenced by the number of eggs she releases during each heat cycle. On average, French Bulldogs produce litters of 2-4 puppies per AKC’s litter registration studies. However, factors such as poor quality sperm and improper timing can limit the number of offspring. We’re here to share our expertise and guide you through the optimal timing and provide high-quality sperm to maximize the litter size for your female. Spiffy has sired multiple litters of 7 puppies.

Rachelle Fox Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

With a strong family background in dog breeding, I have developed extensive skills and knowledge in this field. Growing up, I was actively involved in breeding Boston Terriers and Yorkshire Terriers while living with my parents, who are experienced breeders themselves. My sister specialized in breeding Goldendoodles, further enriching our family's expertise.

I received the California Golden State Merit award for biology, so the DNA of dog breeding has come naturally to me. I took a pause from dog breeding to get my degree in Engineering, as I believe it is important to not rely on dog breeding as a primary source of income so you can make ethically beneficial decisions for the breed over financial necessity.

After marrying, my spouse and I embarked on breeding French Bulldogs, a journey that has enriched our experience significantly. To date, our kennel has successfully bred/whelped/homed two litters of 14 healthy French Bulldog puppies and has also provided stud services for 9 additional litters outside our kennel.

Our breeding program is comprehensive, encompassing DNA testing, genetics analysis, and responsible studding practices. We have expertise in managing logistics such as shipping sperm for breeding purposes and are proficient in the whelping process. Additionally, we engage in effective advertising strategies and ensure each puppy is placed in a loving home. We are committed to providing ongoing support to new puppy owners, covering all aspects of puppy care and management. Our dedication to ethical breeding practices is evident in the health and well-being of our puppies and the satisfaction of those who adopt them.

We have been recognized as a Preferred GoodDog breeder, and our kennel is registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). Additionally, we are actively involved in hundreds of online French Bulldog communities, boasting approximately 3,000 followers per social media platform, which helps us stay connected with fellow breeders and enthusiastic dog lovers, enhancing our reputation and outreach.
